Last weekend, no fewer than 18 volunteers, including 6 from Hastings Conservation Volunteers, helped to clear light scrub from the pond area. once more opening it up to the light.

In the course of removing a small thicket, we discovered a blocked overflow drain which, if we can clear it, will prevent the pond running across the path following periods of heavy rain.

We also cleared and burnt some Ash branches left from the previous session and cut back some branches overhanging the Military Road. It is hoped to open up this footpath junction further by mowing marginal rush and sedge since they constrict the path which then gets more severely trampled and muddy.

Bramble along the fence line of the tennis court was also strimmed back.
